This month we are profiling the work of a single photographer. AWL Images is delighted to welcome Tom Mackie to the library. Widely recognised as one of the world’s finest landscape photographers, Tom’s affinity for light, perspective and colour are the hallmark that has established his reputation on an international scale.

From his base in Norfolk, Tom Mackie has spent the last 30 years travelling throughout Great Britain shooting iconic landscapes and monuments. From the ancient Neolithic standing stones at Callanish in the Outer Hebrides to millstones in the Peak District or Suffolk’s Victorian windmills, Tom has captured the history and soul of “this green and pleasant land”.

Lord of the Rings
Long before film director, Peter Jackson, transported Tolkien’s Middle Earth to the dramatic fjordland of South Island, New Zealand’s landscapes have been recognised as other-worldly, unique and grandiose. Few photographers have the technical skill to capture the true majesty and diversity of landscape on this scale – Tom Mackie’s images are peer-less.

North American vistas
During 5 years spent in Los Angeles working as an industrial and architectural photographer in the early 1980s, Tom fell in love with North America’s vast cinematic landscapes. From the harsh desert of California’s Death Valley to the sub-tropical beaches of Florida, and from the snowy wastes of Alberta, Canada to the deserts of New Mexico, he has returned time after time to capture these epic landscapes.
